Update: Not even a month later and we've lost a light. It was flickering for a little while, and now it's still on, but very dim and only certain colors. I love these, they have a great look and texture. We used them inside, so I can't speak to how they hold up in the elements, but they do look great inside. They were easy to untangle and hang, and paired quickly to the app. The app gives you tons of options in color and pattern, as well as adjusting brightness and speed, but dioes take some work to figure out. These lights are thick and sturdy, and I could definitely see how they'd be great outdoor lights. One odd thing though: After isn't them to what I want, sometimes they change color on their own. I'm not sure if I set something accidentally in the app, or if they just don't like my color choices.

These lights are exactly what I hoped for. I was able to wrap them around the front and sides of my house with no trouble, and they add the perfect flair for any holiday. The customization through the app is a huge plus, I love switching up the colors and effects to fit the season or occasion. One of the best things is how the clear bulbs practically disappear during the day. They don’t clutter the look of the house or scream “holiday lights” when they’re off, which makes them perfect for year-round use. I’ve strung a lot of lights in my time -- some that blinked like they had too much caffeine, others that barely made it through December without burning out or shorting out. These Smart C9 lights? The C9 bulbs are made from hard plastic that’s both textured and transparent, so they throw light in a festive, classic way but won’t shatter if you drop one. The string comes in three segments that easily click together, making setup relatively painless (as long as you’re on good terms with your extension ladder). I had them up around the patio in under 30 minutes, and then the real fun began. You can start with the remote or use the app for more advanced features. The app doesn’t require login or registration, which is a rare and welcome thing these days. You can control the speed, brightness, and pattern of each section, or even individual bulbs if you want to go full Clark Griswold with your design. There’s a music mode that picks up ambient audio and syncs the lights to the beat -- fun for parties, though it occasionally gets “stuck” and requires a quick restart of the app. While the app has some quirks, the lights themselves are impressive in brightness, color variety, and overall showmanship. They work just as well for Halloween, July 4th, or backyard luaus as they do for Christmas, and the waterproofing means you won’t have to baby them through every drizzle. Truly "smart" outdoor Christmas lights can be pricey. It's also difficult to find smart lights that actually look like traditional Christmas lights. Many are just "strips" or little LED "pucks". These look like the traditional thing, though, which I very much like. The colors on these are vibrant and the light intensity seems to be just right. I like that the app comes with several different "scenes" or modes, including blinking, chaser, music synced, or even custom modes. The drawbacks aren't a deal breaker for me but they are there. 1. The app is buggy. I tested out the music sync mode and then decided on a regular "chase" scene. However, even after selecting a different, non-music scene, the app maintained control over my microphone. I had to force kill the app and start it again to terminate it. 2. The LED bulb covers that look like strawberries are not 100% secure. While unpacking, I had two fall off. They could easily be screwed back into place but I'm a little worried how they'll hold up when hanging them. 3. The app doesn't seem to have any security features. No login, no PIN to sync the lights, nothing. So in theory, someone could hijack my Christmas lights, which while a little weird, isn't too concerning. They don't connect to WiFi so this doesn't create any greater home network security concerns. Overall happy with these.
