Less than $35 gets you a CD player with ability to play music from your phone, tablet, or iPod, plus speakers. Given how expensive CD players are (due to not many being made anymore), this is overall a pretty good deal. I picked one up to go alongside a vinyl record player for my sound setup--never get a vinyl-CD player combo because those sound like junk and it's better to buy'em separately and get a good quality one for each purpose. Pros: - CD Player has played every CD I've thrown at it with ease, including some burned ones that are scratched up. Only one CD skipped and it was one that was heavily scratched. - CD Player can keep a CD paused for at least a half hour, probably more (though I've not tried this) - CD Player has EQ options plus the ability to use no EQ. I typically use no EQ as I find all of the EQ settings built in sound pretty artificial, although the Rock one is nice for adding a little oomph to what's played through it. - AUX input works like a charm and sounds really good. - Nice modern design with the ability to be easily mounted. Cons: - The speakers are not good. If you're going to get this CD player, I would highly recommend investing in a set of decent or good speakers. I personally use some Logitech Z200s with a male RCA to female AUX adapter. I am planning on upgrading to a better set fairly soon, although these sound wayyyyy better than the speakers that come with the CD player. - CD Player is a little warm to the touch when a CD is played through it for long periods of time. No danger of a fire or anything of the sort, just wish it stayed cooler. - Remote control is not very good beyond a range of 5 feet. My only worry about this player is that it won't last long given the cheap price. But we'll see how long it works well for.

For $42, this is a great deal. This is not a high quality stereo. It is a run-of-the-mill unit, and it performs admirably in that respect. The remote is easy to operate once you learn the functions. The radio works well. It comes with a cord for auxiliary devices. I leave the cord attached to the radio. When I want to hook up my iPhone, I just plug it in, select Auxiliary, and play. It also plays CDs. I haven't used it, but it is impressive how the face of the unit slides up by remote control when you want to insert a disc. I read complaints that the speakers do not have tweeters (little speakers). That's true, but it would be a waste to put them on. Either the price would go up, or the tweeters would be too weak to do any good. The speakers that it has are standard mid-range speakers. I also read complaints that the speakers sound scratchy. That's true also, but only because the radio is strong enough to over-drive the speakers if you turn the volume all the way up. That's how it should be. You want your radio to be able to use 100% of your speaker's capability. To do that, the radio has to be stronger than the speakers. What's the solution to the scratchy speakers? Turn down the volume, silly. At its loudest (with decent sound), I can hear it several rooms away as I do my work, make lunch, use the clothes washer, etc. If you want high quality sound, booming bass, or incredibly loud sound, this isn't for you. If you want average sound quality with decent volume for basic shelf radios and bedroom radios, and if you want FM radio, CD player, an easy way to play your smart phone/iPhone music, and a fairly simple remote, this is the one for you. I like this unit. If I wanted to upgrade, I wouldn't buy a new one. I would just buy a couple of speakers with better performance. $30 worth of speakers would probably bring this unit up to the standards of units costing $150 or more.

For years I had a huge old component stereo system in the living room of my apartment, which ended up going into the master bedroom when I bought my own house. It took up a lot of room and I needed the space for other bedroom type things - like a vanity - so I eventually, I got rid of it in favor of a smaller, very expensive (extremely heavy) famous brand name "sound system" machine. Which I promptly hated. There was no way to adjust the volume, change radio bands or channels, insert or eject CDs etc. without using the remote, which ate up the button battery life in what seemed like a day. And the base on that thing was deafening! You couldn't adjust the base or treble, or even stream music to it via your mobile device. I kept if for a long time just out of guilt and stubbornness because I spent so much money on it, but I rarely played it because the base was permanently fixed and was so permeating that you could hear it though the whole house, whether you wanted to, or not. Not always what everyone else wants. Then I found the GPX HM3817DT Micro Hi-Fi System. Wow. What a great little stereo system! It fits in a very small space (I have mine on the corner of one of my Bombay Chest night stands), Music can be controlled by the included remote or by the control buttons conveniently located on the front of the stereo (thank you very much!) and with the purchase of an additional cord lets the user stream music from a mobile device. The GPX puts out terrific, clear, adjustable sound quality as well as my old full sized stereo component pieces used to. I LOVE THIS STEREO! It's perfect for anyone who wants great sound in a small space. Highly recommended.
