Black Diamond Spot 400-R Rechargeable Headlamp – Bright, Durable & Outdoor-Ready Lighting

I had a Petzl with a large battery cell and incandescent bulb for a long time. It was bright, but went through batteries at a crazy rate. I keep this one in my daily go-bag and it gets a lot of use for car repair, and working in the breaker box when the power is out, camping, etc.. The built-in red light is great when you need light and don't want to ruin your night vision. I use it when lighting fireworks on the 4th or when I'm working around a telescope in the middle of the night. It is lightweight, and I haven't been through a whole set of batteries yet. Seems durable, but it hasn't really been tested that way yet. I have dunked it in water and it still worked. It won't light up the whole campsite, but for washing dishes or putting up a tent, it's plenty of light. Headband fits my giant melon well and stays in place.

Absolutely love my head lamp! It is bright! It had a few different modes of operation but it remembers the last setting you chose. I love that is pink! The batteries are durable, and the headband is very comfortable! It is adjustable so you can wear it as tight as you prefer! I feel this is the perfect price for a high quality, adorable headlamp.

I have used this headlamp In and around the house, outside at night and while kayaking. The adjustable brightness is helpful. I notice I use the wide-angle LED Most often. It’s quick to get to full brightness by double tapping the side of the unit. While kayaking, hi predominantly used the red light under a full moon and could see well. It is also lightweight, adjustable and comfortable when in use. The learning curve is minimal to learn how to switch within the modes, brightness, etc. The build quality is very good. I had an issue with an older model where the battery compartment broke when I replaced the batteries. I don’t see that happening with this model. The only reason I’m giving at four instead of five stars is that the rechargeable battery pack is additional. I didn’t realize that when I initially ordered it, but it did come with Duracell alkaline batteries.

I love this Black Diamond headlamp! It's the best headlamp I've used so far. The highest setting pleasantly surprised me, because the beam is so bright and its radius is nice and wide. The lowest setting was just as good as any of the flashlights I own. While going through the settings, the SOS strobe kicked in and it caught me off guard... it's so effective, I believe it could be seen by the International Space Station. 🤓 I really love the red light feature, it's perfect for telescope stargazing activities. The reason I bought the Dual Fuel technology was for the flexibility of using either the rechargeable BD 1500 Li-ion battery or three standard AAA alkaline batteries. When the electricity goes out, or if I'm backpacking or primitive camping and don't have access to electricity, I can use backup AAA batteries. When electricity is available recharging the battery back is a cheaper and environmentally friendly option. I've only recharged the BD 1500 Li-ion battery once after several hours of use, and it recharged pretty fast. Now that I see how great this brand headlamp is, I'll probably be getting the 500R as well. I just wish you could replace/swap out the Li-ion battery back on the 500R. I would definitely recommend this Brand headlamp to a friend.

This light is great and functions better than others I have tried. instead of having 3 preset brightness settings like the PETZL ACTIK CORE, it has a dimmer that you can press and select any brightness level for the regular lights and the red light. It has a wider option that lights up the room as well as a focused spot light. It has strobe/sos as well. All around even this has less lumens technically than others I find it more useful and easier to use.

Works quite well, bought with the rechargeable battery, battery seems to last a good amount of time on lower setting, don't really need the higher setting for general use. Low setting is plenty bright, it's easy to switch between modes and last mode is remembered when powering off and back on. Feels like a quality item, has a little heft to it. Band feels solid, too, like it will last. Seems a little pricey, but for the quality, it's worth it.
