I wanted to install the mulching kit to cut down on blowing tons of grass on to my mulch beds. It was a relatively inexpensive step to see if I could avoid spending the extra $$ on a bagging system. Installation was not easy, however that has just about everything to do with the tools I was using and not the process. This kit works fairly well, however only under certain circumstances: First, the grass has to be short enough. If the grass is too long, the mulching is only OK. With my schedule, it’s hard to mow more frequently than every week, and with how the grass grows in my yard, a cut every 4 or 5 days would probably be ideal. Secondly, you have to cut a lot slower. The cut quality really suffers if you go as fast as you can when discharging. The blade overlap seems to be suffer in all cases. Thirdly, the cover to “seal” the deck fits, but not perfectly, and I find grass accumulating around the edges, and even some grass blowing on top of the deck. Lastly (and this isn’t a major issue), but at least in my case, the chute could not just be pivoted up, and instead have had to be removed.

This mulching kit fits great and is very easy to install. I would much rather mulch than blow the grass, and this works like a charm. Lawn looks much cleaner and nicer using this kit.

Earlier versions of this product fit poorly and sprayed debris on the operator. This version (check the part #) fits quite well on my Cub Cadet XT1 series LT46″, and is easy to install. Although using the mulching kit takes a bit more mower throttle to get through the same length turf, the end result looks better with no piles of grass to rake.
